"Students are well prepared for further education and
the world of work, developing interests across
a broad range of subjects and activities."
Ofsted, 2008
There was standing room only at Christ Church on Monday 5th July as parents, family and friends gathered with VIP guests and Lysander High School teachers to witness nearly 100 Lysander students receive Awards from Councillor E Finnegan, the Deputy Mayor of Warrington.
The Award winners were selected from over 400 nominations for Awards from the Academic Bank, The Creative Bank, the Sporting Bank, the Enterprise Bank, the Citizenship Bank and the Community Bank.
Every student awarded has done something special but a few stand out:
James Rowland (Y11) was awarded in the Sporting Bank for his great success at Rugby, he has a contract with Warrington Wolves and has trials with the England team.
Kira Maher (Y11) was awarded in the Creative Bank; she will receive the Creative Industries Vocational award at the Aimhigher 2010 awards ceremony and she has a place at the Brit School of Performing Arts from September.
Helen Hargreaves (Y10) received an award from the Enterprise Bank for her management of the Enterprise Project 'Uneek' showing great leadership skills and an entrepreneurial flair.
Zach Wells (Y10) was awarded from the Community Bank for his work with the Orford Park Library Project.
Andrea Quigley (Y11) received the Governor's Award, a special award commemorating the life and work of Albert Clemow who was a Lifelong Governor of this school from its beginnings as Padgate High School and a long serving local councillor. The Governors' Award is a silver rose bowl given to the student whose work has had a significant impact on the local community. Andrea has organised numerous sporting events in the community, most notably, a Dance class at Brookacre Primary School. She is a credit to herself, her family and her school.
Kieran Silver (Y11) was awarded the Headteacher's Prize for Academic achievement. He has already got A* grades in RE, Science and Spanish GCSEs and has begun A level courses a year early.
Rhiannon Taylor (Y7) was nominated for her Academic achievements but was awarded for her creativity. She shared a very moving passage from a short story she has written.
Y11 Performing Arts students gave an energetic performance of a scene from 'The Twits' causing some of us to jump out of our seats with strong performances from more award winners: Kira Maher, Molly Niklas, Emma Reed, Hollie Spilsbury, and Katie Johnson.
